ABOUT THE WINEMAKER: Cantine Pellegrino was founded in 1880 by Paolo Pellegrino, a winegrower in Marsala, located on the northwest coast of Sicily. Today, this family business is the leader in the region with more than 300 hectares of vineyards and a range of Marsala DOC, Pantelleria Passito and Moscato wines. Wine has been produced here for thousands of years, but the British boosted Marsala's success as a wine capital. The company, which played a key role in the development of fortified wines from Portugal's Oporto and Spain's Jerez, looked elsewhere for similar products.
